Mad River Serious Madness Black Ale Review

Stamp Serious Madness
Serious Madness Black Ale
Mad River Brewing Company
Blue Lake, CA
ABV: 8.6%

Chuggability: 7
It’s rare that you’ll find a beer knocking on the door of 9% that’s this easy-drinking. I had another one right after, though it wasn’t a chug. It’s just as smooth if you’re a sipper.

How Much: 5
I found this on sale for $9.99 for a 4-pack. I think it’s normally closer to $13, but it was a bit out of season when I found it. It definitely delivers on taste, but it’s still a little steep. If they’d throw in 2 more, I’d be totally sold.

Uhhh…Taste: 8
Smooth, toasty deliciousness. I can see why this is a winter seasonal, but I’d have no problem drinking it year-round. It’s a nice combination of dark and flavorful with a light mouthfeel. LOL…I said mouthfeel.

Gettability: 5
Serious Madness Black Ale is a seasonal offering (January – April) and Mad River distributes to 30 states.

Overall Rating:   8.1

Ambiance: Death Grips – “I’ve Seen Footage”
