Chug Madness 2014 – Tribute to the Champion

Initially we were going to post a 3000-word homage to Anderson Valley’s Heelch O’Hops for winning the 2014 Chug Madness tournament, but we only got 2 sentences in before we realized that the only proper way to pay tribute was by chugging a few of them. So without further ado, here’s PoopThoughts and Homebrews32 tossing back a 4-pack in 15 seconds.

Chug Madness – Final Four Wrap-up and Championship Announcement

The Final Four is complete! All of your votes have been tallied, and the two beers who will be battling for the title of Team Chug Super Elite Champion have been determined. We had ourselves a blowout, and a nail biter. Two games that really could have gone either way, because all four beers brought a different strength to the table, but only two beers will be moving on. Here is their story.

Chug Madness – Road to the Final Four

Voting has been closed on the Elite Eight round of Chug Madness 2014, and we’re ready to slug it out to determine who will be in the championship. Though there haven’t been as many upsets as in the NCAA March Madness tournament, we’ve had our fair share here at Team Chug. We determined the seeds so our favorites were clear, but you’ve voted and you picked who will be representing the each bracket in the Final Four!

Chugs of the Month – February 2014

February was an interesting month for us here at Team Chug. We introduced our first brewery themed week with Stone Brewing. It was a hell of a week with some badass beers, Stone never fails to impress. Following that was our Fortnight of Stouts. We ventured into two straight weeks of beers that most people tip-toe around even when it comes to sipping because they’re intimidated. As professionals, we came out triumphant and chugged 8 beers for your viewing pleasure. Finally, wild card week brought you a look into what just happened to be sitting in the back of our fridge. The beers listed below have set themselves apart from the others this month. Team Chug brings you the Chugs of the Month for February 2014!

selfrighteous
Stone Brewing Co.
Self-Righteous Ale
Chugged by Homebrews32

Some breweries use the space on the side of the bottle to tell a story. Stone brewing is one of the best when it comes to entertaining their customers, but with this beer they don’t have to. It speaks for itself. Self-Righteous Ale (Black IPA / American Black Ale..call it whatever the hell you want) is a beer that literally tastes like everything. It has the perfect balance of hops, malt, citrus, chocolate, coffee, and carbonation. It seems like as they were brewing it one flavor kept overpowering the others, so they just upped the amount of everything else and kept doing so until it all balanced out and was chuck full of every ingredient that they had in the brewery. Whatever they did it worked to perfection, not to mention, the 8.7% ABV is enough to knock your ass out! Cheers!

Stone IPA
Chugged by PoopThoughts

I’m a big fan of this beer. I always have a six pack of “everyday” IPA’s in my beer fridge and Stone IPA is fully in the rotation. It’s reasonably-priced, mega-hoppy and super smooth. That’s everything I need in a daily drinker. I like trying lots of different new beers and anytime my liquor store brings in a new IPA, I always have to give it shot. I always come back to Stone, though, because I have yet to find one good enough to dethrone it. Take note, all you other brewers, cause Stone has got the IPA nailed down.

Stay tuned for March. Staying true to our style, we have a few tricks up our sleeves. We’ll have another brewery themed week, this time with a brewery that has a few locations, East Coast and up in the Rockies. Then with Spring rolling in, we figured you’d like to see a few beers of the lighter fare. Pale Ales don’t need to be boring tasteless low ABV brews. We hope to show you that some are actually extraordinarily delicious. As always, great beers, fast chugs, and ridiculous outfits. Chug on!

Chugs of the Month – January 2014

This month of Chuguary we kicked in the doors to 2014 by bombarding you with 31 Days of Chugs. It has been a hell of a lot of fun for us (not so much for our livers) but we’re here to serve the people. We’ve had some GREAT beers, some bottled water garbage, and everything in between. Team Chug proudly presents the Chugs of the Month!

Stamped 90-minute
Dogfish Head Craft Brewery
90 Minute IPA
Chugged by PoopThoughts

I look for three things in a beer:
1) Deliciousness
2) Cost-effectiveness and
3) Get me drunkiness.
This beer compares favorably with any other beer I’ve had this year on points #1 and #3 and is reasonable on #2. IPA’s are what I love. I’m not an expert and I’ve got a hell of a lot more of them to drink before I can claim to be one, but I know this is a damn fine beer. If there’s a smoother IPA with this high of an ABV at this price point, then I have yet to find it. But that’s just another one of the glorious parts about beer-drinking…someday I probably will. Here’s to the never-ending search for the perfect beer.

MerryMonks
Weyerbacher Brewing
Merry Monks Belgian Ale
Chugged by Homebrews32

Merry Monks really blew me away. I was expecting a big Belgian flavor, sure, but holy shit this beer has it all. Its smooth as all hell, has that Belgian spice note at the end, and completely hides the high octane 9.3% ABV. That’s more than enough to land yourself a Stamp of Approval, and this month it was good enough to be my top beer. Cheers!
