The 12 Beers of Christmas – Day 8: Weyerbacher Winter Ale

logo

On the eighth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…
weyerbacherwinter
Winter Ale
Weyerbacher Brewing Co.
Easton, PA
ABV: 5.6%

CHUG Rating:
Chuggability: 6
This Winter Ale flew down the hatch faster than Clark W. Griswold Jr. on his saucer greased up with non-caloric silicon-based kitchen lubricant. Maybe it was the ease of the beer, or maybe it was the anticipation of getting a mistletoe kiss…either way this beer disappeared quick
How Much: 4
Well, clocking in at $12.49 a 6-pack I can only say that I found a bunch of Winter Ale’s that were a better value than Weyerbacher’s offering. I’d be OK paying that much if it was really a stand out brew, but I could take this or leave it for the price
Uhhh…Taste: 6
When you’re drinking a Winter Ale, you typically find yourself searching for some sort of spice or other variant that sets it apart from a typical style of beer. This, to me, just tasted like a brown ale. Granted if it were labeled as a brown ale it may have scored higher, but I was looking for a little more. It had a medium carbonation, heavy mouthfeel, and a smooth lingering bready roasted malt flavor. Not a bad brew overall, I just felt like I got the Jelly of the Month Club instead of a Christmas Bonus. The best part of this chug was the kiss at the end
Gettability: 3
This Winter Ale is available in 17 states, mostly along the east coast, and a few in the northern central US, over the Fall / Winter months

Overall Rating: 6.1

Suggested food pairing: Breast Milk Duds
