The 12 Beers of Christmas – Day 10: Ommegang Adoration Ale

On the tenth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…
adoration
Adoration Ale
Ommegang Brewing Co.
Cooperstown, NY
ABV: 10.0%

Chuggability: 2
I’ve chugged a pretty solid number of beers before this point in my life. I went into this with the confidence of a 14 year starting NFL QB playing a Division III High School team. About 1 second into this chug my team abandoned me and it was me against the world. Adoration is highly carbonated, and 10% ABV. Don’t chug it. Don’t. Sip it, sit back, and enjoy my struggles
How Much: 5
This is pretty expected of any beer over 8% now, it’s sold in a 4-pack for a jacked up price. I dropped $11.49 for the mini-pack of these bad mothers. It’s a reaaaally interesting brew, so I suggest you buy it at least once, and decide for yourself whether it’s worth the price or not
Uhhh…Taste: 7
Adoration is listed as a Belgian Winter Ale, and I suppose that’s a good way to put it, but I’m not sure it can fully fit into any category. It’s very Belgiany, as far as spices go. Ommegang says it packs 5 spices into this brew, but it tastes like they used 500. You can taste the candied sweetness, but you’re mainly getting hit with these spices. Have I said “spices” enough? It’s crazy highly carbonated, almost like a champagne, but it’s heavier in mouthfeel, so you’re reminded that it’s a beer. Hops are very mild, and it’s balanced pretty well. I’d say if there was one less handful of spices in this brew it would have earned itself a stamp
Gettability: 6
Not going to lie, I was amazed when I saw how far Ommegang reaches with it’s distributing. You can find Adoration Ale over the winter months in as many as….get this…44 states. Sorry to the Dakotas, Wyoming, Utah, W. Virginia, and Mississippi, you guys are missing out
